Does it have to be 0 degrees for it to snow? Will it snow at 3 degrees?
Zero degrees is a necessary but not sufficient condition for snowfall. The water vapor content in the air, cloud structure, terrain and other factors will all affect the occurrence of snowfall. Snowfall cannot be accurately predicted based on temperature alone. Even with temperatures as low as three degrees Celsius, snow is still possible if there is enough moisture and suitable cloud conditions. Therefore, judging snowfall based on temperature alone is obviously an oversimplification. A better understanding of atmospheric physics can lead to more accurate snowfall predictions.
