Can a typhoon cause a tsunami?
Although both typhoons and tsunamis are related to the ocean, they are completely different disasters. Typhoons are mainly caused by strong winds and heavy rains, while tsunamis are caused by undersea earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. Although typhoons have strong winds, they usually do not directly cause tsunamis. The huge waves of tsunamis come from drastic changes in the seabed, while the impact of typhoons is mainly on the sea surface. Therefore, typhoons do not cause tsunamis. People should distinguish between the two in order to effectively prevent and respond.
