Can mercury conduct electricity?
Mercury, also known as quicksilver, is a liquid metal with special electrical properties. Its atomic structure makes it a good conductor of electricity. Mercury once played a key role in many electrical components, such as early vacuum tubes. However, the toxicity of mercury cannot be ignored, and modern technology has gradually reduced its use and turned to safer and more environmentally friendly materials. Therefore, although mercury can conduct electricity, its potential hazards cannot be ignored and more environmentally friendly alternatives should be given priority.
